With the announcement of Kelly Johnson’s retirement, many speculated as to whom the school board would choose as his successor. On June 28, the press released that previous associate principal Mitzi Cress will be Palos Verdes Peninsula High’s new principal. After 18 years of continued service to Peninsula as principal, Johnson cited health issues as his reason for retirement. During his tenure at Peninsula, Johnson has become well liked by the student population due to his understanding personality and his dedication to the school.
“During my two years at Peninsula, Mr. Johnson has been a friendly and universal presence on campus,” junior Jessie Chen said. “I have high hopes for next year when Mrs. Cress becomes the principal.”
The school board deemed Cress as the best choice for the position because she has served as associate principal for the past eight years at Peninsula and multiple other capacities in other schools prior to that.
